The Icing on the Cake for British Bakels

3T Logistics and Technology Group has recently been selected by leading Bakery Ingredients company British Bakels to digitise their transport operations and drive down transport costs.

Commercial ingredient manufacturer and distributor British Bakels has invested in 3T’s Digital Transport Platform, EVENT to help streamline their transport processes and drive down costs by using a collaborative multi-carrier operating model.

Led by Andrew Steele (Head of Supply Chain) and Bartosz Kurdziel (Transport Planner), British Bakels are on a mission to modernise their logistics & transport operations and diversify their portfolio of transport partners with the aim of exceeding their customers’ service expectations whilst effectively managing the company’s cost base.

Prior to working with 3T, British Bakels (like many of their market peers) were reliant on manual processes such as communicating with transport providers via email or phone and using spreadsheets. The majority of customer deliveries were handled by a single 3PL however, on occasion, work was subcontracted to other carriers on an ad-hoc basis, but the onboarding and management of multiple carriers was time consuming.

One of the key reasons for selecting 3T’s EVENT platform was its ability to enable the Bakels teams to manage all transport activity centrally. The capabilities of the EVENT platform mean that manual tasks such as keying in customer orders, allocating loads over email and phone, manually tracking and chasing invoices and PODs are now a thing of the past for the team. The automation of these tasks mean that the team can now spend their time on value-add activity, and it provides a sustainable, scalable method of supporting the company’s forecasted growth without the need to increase headcount.

Critically, the EVENT platform also removes the reliance on a single or small pool of carriers through its built-in carrier network, Carrier Store. With access to thousands of approved hauliers across the length and breadth of the UK, shippers like British Bakels can identify and select the best carriers for the job at the lowest rate helping organisations to dramatically reduce transport costs.

After recently implementing EVENT, British Bakels are already starting to see major benefits across their entire business. The warehouse team now has a live view of inbound collections enabling them to better plan their despatch activity. The transport team has significantly reduced their transport administration time and has now has visibility of all deliveries in real-time and in addition, the Bakels leadership team has real-time visibility into their transport spend. Critically, the ability to widen their pool of carriers has enabled them to reduce their transport costs with reductions as high as 30% on some transport lanes being realised already!

Whilst the EVENT platform is a SaaS product, 3T Logistics & Technology Group’s customer success team will continue to work closely with the British Bakels team to ensure maximum efficiency and cost savings are achieved by passing on their knowledge and expertise.
